English Channel swim · 6 September 2019

When patients in London suffer life-threatening injury, only our team can provide them with the help they need. With your support, we can perform complex procedures to save lives where others can’t. We can get there in time to make a difference and provide hope for the patient and their loved ones.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Myself and the team from the LAA charity will be swimming across the English Channel to France this September.

There will be two pilot boats with 6 swimmers on each. We will each complete an hour swim with five hours off till we hit the French coast! We will not be able to break swim order and have to stay in the water for one hour!

Shortest distance is 21 miles - but on either side of Cap Gris Nez, the French Coastline drops away, so, if you do not reach land at the Cap you have further to go to make landfall. We will be swimming across the channel for 21 miles (highly likely further!).

London’s Air Ambulance is the charity that delivers an advanced trauma team to London’s most seriously injured patients. All the money raised will be going towards this amazing charity.

Using a helicopter from 08:00 to sunset, and rapid response cars at night or in adverse weather situations, London’s Air Ambulance brings the hospital to the patient when time is critical. They perform innovative and potentially life-saving procedures usually found in the emergency department on-scene. The team, consisting of an advanced trauma doctor, paramedic and consultant on most missions, can perform treatments such as open heart surgery, blood transfusions and general anaesthetic by the roadside.

By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, we aim to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.
