Michael Parker is raising money for Refugee Council

Participants: 60 poets from Brighton and Hove, young and old, peaceful and wild, from diverse poetry communities and some whose poetry is emerging from their bedrooms for the first time, are all taking to the stage to say something and do something.

BRIGHTON POEM-A-THON · 11 December 2016

The Refugee Council is the nation’s refugee charity. Together with community groups, partners and volunteers, we help people who have escaped war and persecution to rebuild their lives, integrate into communities, and play their part in Britain.

Brighton Poem-a-thon for refugees

A bunch of poets, whose job is to speak, have decided to speak up and put your money where their mouth is. There is good work to be done and we are doing what we can to support it and do it.

Between 12 noon to 10 pm on Sunday 11th December, I will be taking part in a relay of 60 poets and readers who will each read for 8 minutes at the Komedia, Gardner Street, Brighton. BN1 1U. My slot is at 9 pm. Some of my good friends, colleagues and poets that I love are going to be performing too. Drop in for as little or as much of the day as you like.

ENTRY IS FREE so come and have a beer or tea and a cake, but don't worry, there will be plenty of opportunities to give. As well as The Refugee Council receiving our JustGiving donations, we will be raising money at the event for The School Bus Project, providing mobile education for refugees.
