Makomborero works to relieve poverty in Zimbabwe through education. We do this by enabling deprived, talented students to complete their education & attain excellent grades in their A-levels. Makomborero gives students the chance to fulfil their undeniable potential & gives them hope and a future.

Story

Meet the students we’re helping

Joseph – A future heart surgeon

Joseph has ten siblings. His father died when he was 13 and ever since then he has lived a turbulent life. His mother is unemployed and they survive on her doing odd jobs and receiving hand outs. Joseph has a dream to become a heart surgeon. He enjoys challenges, as it makes him stretch his mind. He is focused on success and does not take ‘NO’ for an answer.

Tinotenda – A future aircraft engineer

Tinotenda lives with his father who faces the financial burden of caring for nine children, both his own and those of his younger brother who died a few years ago. His mother lives in their rural home. We were impressed with his mature demeanour and the leadership roles he has undertaken, including being a Junior Member of Parliament. His mother is his role model as she has encouraged him to never give up, even when times were really hard.

Ruvimbo – A future Accountant

Ruvimbo is the second born in a family of three children. She is business minded and draws inspiration form the successful business women in Zimbabwe. She aspires to be an accountant which she believes is her calling rather than a career. She shares the vision of Makomborero Zimbabwe and wants to help children from her community achieve their goals and aspirations.

Taringana  – A future Pilot

Taringana is from a family of 3 boys.  He’s set his heart on becoming an pilot. He believes that this scholarship will allow him to fulfil his potential and give him the platform to be able to help less privileged children and see them also achieve their goals. He is a gifted young man and his mother has been his inspiration as she has always encouraged him to keep working hard and hold onto the hope of making it to university and beyond.

Takudzwa – A future Electrical Engineer

Takudzwa is the only boy in a family of four children. He lives with his mother. She is a single parent, working tirelessly as a government teacher to provide for her family. He is a kind hearted young man who excels in Chess and Athletics. He is also passionate about community service and is an excellent team player. His dream is to become an Electrical Engineer.

Blessing – A future Electrical Engineer

Blessing comes from a family of three boys. His home is in the rural areas. He impressed us when we quizzed him about his life experiences and goals. He backed this up with impressive performances in all the testing.  We believe that he has huge potential to impact his community and is thus deserving of this scholarship. Blessing is a very driven young man, who wants to see his goals accomplished and people’s lives changed through the opportunities he has been given.
