In February 2000 our beautiful daughter Alice died from Pneumococcal Meningitis. She was only two years old – healthy, vivacious, adorable – yet she died over the course of one weekend and despite the best attentions of doctors and specialists, nothing could save her. The Alice Faith Mittelman Foundation was established with the aim of funding research projects to find better and more effective vaccines to combat this devastating disease.

 

Since 2000 you have kindly supported me in my challenges to Cotopaxi, Machu Picchu and Mount Everest. Now I need your support in my latest venture. I am teaming up with the Meningitis Trust on their Three Volcano Challenge in September. In the course of three days I will be climbing Mount Vesuvius, Mount Stromboli and Mount Etna in Italy. This promises to be both an exciting adventure and a physical challenge.

 

We know how devastating Pneumococcal Meningitis can be to people of all ages. We know that we cannot bring Alice back, but with your help we can work towards ensuring that other families do not have to suffer as ours has done.
