Story

A masssive THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored me so far. Your words of support and encouragement mean so much to me. Its only three days to go now so I am preparing for the big day - lots of pasta, rest and a slow down of the running regime. My Mum has now been in a home for a year. It's been tougher than any of us could have imagined but has also brought us closer to each other. The picture shows us together last year - she has changed dramatically since then, now weighing only 6 stone and unable to hold a conversation. Alzheimers is a horrible illness and I thank you for helping the society find a cure.

LATEST NEWS:

As of this week (22/3) I am allowed to run again. I am having to take it very slowly but I am going to run and complete this marathon even if I have to walk/stagger/crawl!!!! I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ian Smith, the Physio at The Park Langley Club who has helped me get back into my trainers (I can't tell you how good it feels) and who I would recommend to anyone.

So.... please continue to donate to try and rid the world of this horrible disease.

My thanks to all of you for your support xxx

UPDATE:

Sadly I have received an injury to my left calf muscle on a skiing holiday. I am going to see a physiotherapist today (22/02/10) and will leave a notice on this site with more information about whether or not I will be allowed/able to run.

My Mum was diagnosed with this horrible disease only 6 years ago but last Easter went into a full time nursing home. I cannot express the devastation that hits a family when this happens and it doesn't stop there. A Mum is the cornerstone of a family and her route into dementia affects everyone. My Dad has to cope with seeing his beloved wife confused and upset, my siblings and I have lost the Mum we knew, replaced with a shadow and my Nan has to watch her only daughter suffering. I know that a cure will not help my Mum but a cure could stop the pain for another family. This disease is a thief - it robs everyone, the person with the disease, their immediate family and the extended family. My own family have been supported by each other, our Aunts & Uncles, our cousins and our friends. In this we are very lucky and I thank them all.

Running does not come easily to me but I am doing this for Mum. I am not promising to run all 26 miles - my goal is to complete the course.

Thank you
