For those of you who aren´t aware, I´m currently volunteering in the Sacred Valley in Peru with an oragnisation called MySmallHelp. The aim of this organisation to enable local children with disabilities/ and children from very poor homes to have access to education.

I’ve only been here for one week now now but I can already see that the work this charity is doing for the local kids with disabilities and their families is simply invaluable. The charity has set up a local bus service that I´m currently helping out with. We collect each of the kids from their homes and bring them to and from a local special education school in the next village. Before this charity was set up three years ago these children had no access to education whatsoever and most of them never left their homes, as their parents simply couldn´t manage their disability or afford to send them to school. 

Some of the other children I have met children with more severe disabilities (Cerebral Palsy, Spinabifida, Polio) never left their beds up until three years ago as they had no wheelchairs or aids to help them. Alex, pictured below is one example of a smiling young 16 year old who got a new wheelchair provided by MySmall help last week. He´s waited 16 years to finally leave the walls of his home to be surrounded by other teenagers his age. His family have also been provided with soap, clean sheets, and toys for his siblings, simple things that we take for granted at home.

It´s incredible to think that not only is this small charity providing these children with wheelchairs but it is giving them the opportunity to leave their homes for the first time, thus providing them with a new meaningful life.

This is only a small insight into the wonderful work that this charity does here for so many families in Peru but without more help and support from the public, services such as the bus project could no longer run. EVERY donation no matter how small is valued more than you can imagine.
