At 7:30am on 14th February 2010 myself and 18 other exhausted climbers made it to the summit of Kilimanjaro. As we stood at Uhuru Peak at 5895m, we were surrounded by beautiful glaciers and glorious sunrise views over the roof of Africa. What an incredible experience! The climb was the hardest physical challenge I have ever faced- we hiked from midnight in freezing temps of down to -20C against strong, icy winds; the effects of altitude kicked in with many of us getting sick to varying degrees and struggling for air- but it was worth it every bit! I would do it all over again if I could (though maybe not anytime soon!) A very big **thank you** to all of you for your support in raising money for Water for Kids. I believe all the money raised will go to a very good cause and help secure improvements in environmental conditions for many people. Please continue to follow the good work of Water for Kids in the future. Their website can be viewed at: http://waterforkids.org.uk
Thanks again!! Michelle
18/01/2010: Wow, the big date has come round way faster than I imagined! Less than 3 weeks to go and getting more excited by the day!! Just wanted to say thank you again to everyone for your very generous donations as well as words of encouragement and support.
Updated Note 22/11/2009: A HUGE thank you to all who have donated so far- we're well on the way to meeting and hopefully exceeding the £500 target with a couple of months yet to go! You're all fantastic! x
Hello everyone! :)
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page. Call me ambitious, lucky, or just plain crazy but I'm planning to summit Kilimanjaro on 14th February 2010. This will involve just over 120km of trekking over 6 days to get to the top of Africa's highest mountain. I really want to use this opportunity to encourage you to donate to a very worthy charity called 'Water for Kids'*.
Thanks to the work of WfK many third world countries have benefited from clean water, sanitation and health education- things we take for granted in everyday life.
Your suppport would be gratefully received and a donation no matter how small would make a difference - even £1 will go a long way to help this charity carry out its vital work. Please be as generous as you are able to and donate now. Thanks so much for your support!
Michelle
