Story
Well what can I say...in a moment of madness I thought I would finally get my act together, and do something that I have only dreamed about and raise money at the same time for a fantastic cause.
Hannah Francis a talented 17 year old eventer was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer in May 2015 and tragically lost her battle in August this year. Her bravery, determination and achievements through her illness inspired thousands of people like myself.
She set up an amazing charity before she died and the Wobbleberry Challenge is one of the fundraisers which raises funds for bone cancer research and grants horsey wishes to those with serious illnesses.
The challenge was set up for middle aged wimpy riders (not afraid to admit it), like me to compete a British Eventing 80cm Event in the autumn of 2017. To my non-horsey friends this means a professional competition which consists of dressage (think Charlotte Dujardin...I wish!!), Showjumping and cross country (around 1.5 miles over natural solid jumps...genuine risk of injuring myself, clinging on for dear life as Mozart LOVES this phase!)
Mozart and I have been together for four years after a break from riding of 15 years. We have been happily hacking and having lessons which is in my comfort zone. Watching at these events is great but the thought of competing myself makes me feel sick with nerves. My daughter has recently got a pony and she is rapidly catching me up and I feel the need to prove to myself that I can and did do it before I take on the title of official head groom!
I'm really looking forward to the challenge, but also know that myself and all the fellow Willberries are daunted by such a big project, but with a lot of hard work, blood sweat and tears we will make this happen and hopefully smash our targets for such a good cause.
Please donate no matter how small, it's the only way I'm going to get through this!
THANK YOU!
