I'm delighted to say I've had to raise my target from £200 to £300, having smashed it in three days. Thanks all for your generosity. I obviously massively underestimated everyone. Thank you.

Once upon a time, in my 20's, I lived in a place called Grimsby. Whilst there I made a number of good friends, most of whom I've lost touch with. During a recent conversation with another friend who's still in Grimsby, we agreed to try to track down an old friend of ours, Rick Edwards.
Mainly through luck, we tracked Rick down in Bedford which was great news (not for Bedford maybe, but certainly for us). Having lost touch with Rick for ten years, I was very happy of course but devestated to learn that Rick is suffering from that foul disease called cancer.
Only a couple of days later I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Rick to help him celebrate his marriage to his gorgeous girlfriend Louise. It was a great day and it got me thinking.
Recently I've started to do a bit of running, mainly to help shift some of the 40-something spread I seem to have developed. I've decided to put my sweaty efforts to good use and, having sought Rick's advice on the cause, I'm running a 5k race for those damned good people at Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event is in Leeds on August 14th and it's the somewhat bizarrely named "Big Fun Run" (I've yet to establish what's so much bloody fun about running 5000 metres but I'll take their word for it). There's a link to the event here:

I don't have a large circle of friends so I've set my target at £200 although with the help of friends and friends of friends I hope to beat that.
I can't recall that I've done anything for charity in my life before and it's rare that I become inspired to do anything as effortsome as this. I've never actually run 5k in my life either but I'm really looking forward to it. Knowing that it's in the name of my old mate Rick makes me more determined to do it and to do it well.
So dig deep, people.
Many thanks.
