UPDATE: WE MADE IT!!!!!!!
Dear all,
Early on the morning of Saturday 11th December 2010 Mike and Josh successfully summitted Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest freestanding mountain in the world and highest outright mountain in Africa.
On the evening of the summit attempt we camped at 4600m at a camp called 'Barafu' (swahili for 'ice' - it was very cold!) and were woken at 11pm to head to the top. After many hours of trudging with only our headtorches to light the way, we made it to Uhuru Point ('the roof of Africa) at about eight in the morning in time for the truly spectacular Tanzanian sunrise.
An enormous thank you to all for your wonderfully generous donations and warm words of encouragement - we really couldn't have done it without you!
Finally, we wish everyone seasons greeting this festive season!
Many, many thanks again,
Mike and Josh.
This year is my 50th and Josh and I are planning to climb Kilimanjaro in aid of World Jewish Relief. At 5895m its the highest point in Africa.
Founded in 1933, WJR is the main overseas aid arm of the UK Jewish community. It provides basic welfare support in the form of food, medication and fuel as well as sustaining and renewing Jewish life in communities across the world. With its global outlook today WJR is positioned as the charity to channel the UK Jewish community's response to disasters and need affecting the international community regardless of race, religion or nationality.
