Mike Evans was my step father. He was cared for by Overgate Hospice in the last month of his life. I have set up this page on his behalf, because I know how passionately he came to feel about Overgate, during the short time he spent there.

If you were one of his many friends, I am certain he would have wanted to share with you, what he discovered about the benefits of hospice care. You may already be aware how grateful he was, to be able to spend his final weeks, feeling completely safe and supported by the dedicated staff at the hospice. He was amazed to discover it was available, free of charge, for anyone who needs palliative care or end of life care. You may be surprised to discover it is largely financed by charitable donations.

As a family we are so thankful that his needs were met with such insight, love and kindness. We simply could not have managed by ourselves. We are hugely grateful to the staff.

I am probably not alone, in that I had previously given little thought to "end of life care". I had never needed to, and I am aware most people are very uncomfortable thinking about dying. Having witnessed Mike's final weeks of his life cut short by terminal cancer, I now understand. Hospice care is about making a terrible situation as good as it can possibly be. Not just for those at the end of their lives, but their family and friends as well.

I know Mike felt indebted to Overgate. I truly believe that given more time, Mike would have been a keen supporter of this charitable cause. As his friends and family, I suggest we take up this cause on his behalf. If you are able to, please do donate to Overgate, in memory of Mike. He would have been proud to help make the skill and kindness he received at the end of his life, reach more people who need it. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
