Story

So, just to give some background as to why I am fundraising still...

On the 8th of November 2013, Super-typhoon Haiyan (category 5) hit the islands of Samar and Leyte. Over 2 years on, All Hands Volunteers are still here and dedicated to helping the victims of Haiyan who are STILL suffering from the immediate effects of the disaster. Many remain homeless and helpless, but not hopeless; relying on organisations like All Hands Volunteers to provide them typhoon resilient homes, livelihoods, Schools, Evacuation Centre's and more...

SinceFebruary 14th 2014 I have been lucky enough to be involved in a number of amazing projects leading sites in school roof replacements, entire classroom rebuilds and the construction of 120 Transitional Shelters.

Currently I am working with an organisation called Streetlight Philippines Inc. Streetlight is a Norwegian NGO based out of Tacloban City, Leyte.
Their fundamental aim is to work alongside street children and assist in providing them with a better, brighter future; one without drugs, starvation, poverty or prostitution.

Their current home was hit hard by Super Typhoon Yolanda and the subsequent storm surge. During this the staff, volunteers and children took refuge on the roof of their dormitory, huddled together for several hours as the huge winds past through the city. Thankfully there were no fatalities, and they now move forward in true Filipino style, all smiles and ever inspiring positive attitudes.

Due to the high risk location of their current buildings from future typhoons and storm surges, Streetlight are relocating to an area far from the coast line to ensure sufficient safety for the children.

I was lucky enough to be promoted to Program Manager, back in May 2015, and am honoured to be running this program for such and amazing, inspiring, generous organisation like Streetlight. This is by far the biggest career progression and position of responsibility I have ever been offered and I truly hope I do them justice. This isn't just a construction project, it is touching the live of many children, shaping their futures and the futures of those to come who are lucky enough to be subject to many of Streetlight's programs.

I've attached a photo to illustrate what we will be constructing.

By making a donation, the impact you will have on the families we are currently working with will be phenomenal…this I can promise you!
