Story
I can't believe I'm doing it again; on Sunday I’m going to run the 13.1 mile Great North Run 2012. My inspiration is Al my ‘good wife’ and that is all the inspiration I need; it’s all the inspiration I ever needed.
I’m doing the Great North Run in memory of my good wife. We – Nicole, Luciee, Marsh and me – would like to give thanks for the fantastic care Al received from the Saint Michael’s Hospice team in the last very painful 2 ½ weeks of her life. We would also like to thank them for helping us through some very very difficult times in the 3 years after Alison's death. Saint Michael’s Hospice has been there for us before, during and after the saddest time in our lives. We would like to help ensure they are there for others.
Al said she would like to have helped Saint Michael’s if she had been lucky enough to survive stomach cancer. With Al’s wish to help Saint Michael’s in mind and to give back to a fantastic, caring and free service I would like you to help me raise £15,000. And I’d like YOU to help with this by sponsoring me for running the 13.1 miles of the Great North Run.
The photo of Alison was taken when we took a balloon flight to celebrate a year of no cancer; a happy occasion and a very fond memory.
Saint Michael's believes that everyone in the Harrogate and district area should have access to the end of life care they need, want and deserve. They have a specialist team of staff and volunteers who place huge emphasis on respect, empowerment, dignity and adding quality to the lives of our patients. Their services include a 10-bed in-patient unit, day therapy centre, lymphoedema clinic and bereavement support and make no charge at all for any of the services they provide, making sure that care is available to all. They currently must raise £2.5 million each and every year to ensure this vital facility can continue.
So please dig deep and donate now.
