Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

The National Blind Children's Society recently changed its name to Blind Children UK and is now part of the Guide Dogs family. At Blind Children UK our mission is to enable children and young people, who are blind and partially sighted to achieve their educational and recreational goals.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for any kind donations that you give. You are ensuring a worthwhile charity can keep helping and supporting visual impaired children and their families.

Why Donate

The National Blind Children’s Society rely on voluntary donations from individuals, companies and grant making trusts. They do not receive any statutory funding at all. This charity provides vital support to visually impaired children from birth right through their education and their family.

My sister’s son, Archie, suffers with Arthritis and unfortunately this has affected his eyes and he now has to wear glasses. Thankfully his eye condition is ok at the moment but there is still a chance that his eyes will get worse and in the worst case loose his sight altogether.

The charity performs great work and helps support people like Archie and my sister through very tough times. If you would like to support me and help the charity raise vital funds make a donation and support the charity and support me running the London Marathon.

For further information on the charity please read on and/or visit National Blind Children's Society website at http://www.nbcs.org.uk.

The Charity's Work

The National Blind Children's Society’s objective is to enable children and young people with visual impairment to achieve their educational and recreational goals.  Our vision is a world where children with a visual impairment have an equal opportunity to the provision of education, which is adequately supported with sources of information provided in a suitable format for their needs and where there are no barriers to sports and recreational activities.  We offer help and support from the moment a child is diagnosed, usually at birth, through each key stage of their education to the age of twenty-five.

Key Services the Charity Provides

Educational Advocacy Advice - to ensure the child receives the best possible education in the correct environment.

CustomEyes Books – a large print book service, tailor made to suit the child’s eye condition.

ICT & Sensory Equipment – ensuring the child has the correct equipment at home and at school.

Holidays & Activities – a recreational programme offering choices and opportunities to the child and family.

Family Support & Information – offering advice and holistic support along with a directory signposting families and careers and children to services and provisions which they can access for further support and information.

Telefonica O2 UK Charity TopUp Scheme

I work for Telefonica O2 UK and they offer a matching scheme up to the value of £350. Since 1st April 2005, to date, they are delighted that they have been able to match a total of £150,000 through employees donating their time through fundraising for their charities. As we have raised over £350 for the National Blind Children's Society for this event we will now be eligable for a chairty topup and this has been added to the offline donations.
