Story

Mission accomplished. I arrived at John O'Groats at 10 AM on Saturday 23rd July. The weather was a little unkind with headwinds on all but one day. There were 2 days of torrential rain and others were cold with showers. Additionally I had a bout of food poisoning that made one day particularly difficult. My suport team were brilliant and with their help and the support of all the very generous sponsors I managed to take on all the hills, weather and other setbacks to complete the 907miles and raise a very substantial total for the Special Care Baby Unit. Thanks to all who have supported me.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Many babies are born prematurely or have birth defects requiring highly specialized care. I am very aware of this, as my own daughter Evie was born 12 weeks before her due date and weighed only 2lbs 8oz. Evie was cared for in the Special Care Baby Unit in Winchester for 9 weeks and was eventually allowed home still weighing only 5 pounds. During this very worrying time we became aware of the many tragedies others were experiencing too and the vast expense involved in saving these young lives. We are hoping to raise money to purchase essential equipment for the Neonatal Charitable Fund reference number FR007. There is a whole range of essential equipment that would help to save lives ranging from a "Respirator Monitor" at £800, to an "Incubator" at £16000 and, depending on how much we are able to raise, we are hoping to pay for one, or some of these things. I will be cycling from Lands End to John O Groats, approximately 1000 miles, at 80 - 90 miles per day, starting on 11th July with the support of my wife Karen & daughter Evie who will be travelling by car as my support team. We will be funding this project entirely ourselves so that all funds raised will be going directly to the purchase of essential equipment for the Special Care Baby Unit.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now, your donation, large or small will help to save very vulnerable lives and make my challenge worthwhile.
