We would like to invite you to kindly sponsor us for running the Brighton Marathon, all contributions great or small are gratefully received. The charity is Look Ahead Housing and Care and money raised will go towards a residential home called The Mews which specialises in mental health.

Often people with mental health difficulties isolate themselves and are not able to work. For example, some-one who experiences hallucinations such as hearing voices regularly throughout the day, would find this hard. This can create a feeling of failure, burden and guilt on society.

Fortunately I have been able to work at The Mews and help plant the seeds of a fantastic gardening group which encourages residents outdoors into the fresh air and to work in the garden.

Our theraputic gardener, empowers residents with the basic skills to create and maintain their garden. This enables a sense of achievement, self worth and a safe comfortable environment to talk.

There is an abundance of research to show that gardening creates a soothing therapeutic experience. I have been lucky enough to observe this for myself and have found the benefits of this group to mental health priceless.

The money raised for this group will go towards tools for the garden and an outdoor tap which would be easily accessible for all residents. We will be able to feedback on exactly what was bought with the money raised and no doubt the joy and fun it will bring to the residents at The Mews.
