My story

Hello and welcome to my marathon fund raising page.

Yes that is right… I am running the London marathon in April.

This stupid idea first came into my head when I watched a friend of mine compete in the marathon last year. Then in November a place became available and I thought, how hard can it be? (I can answer this already - very)

For someone who once struggled to run a mile, the thought of running 26 and a bit is pretty scary, but also rather exciting and am enjoying the training so far.

The charity that I am going to be running for is Crimestoppers.

A good friend of mine works for them and I have seen what great work they do in helping those who have been affected by crime and the work they do with teenagers in our inner cities in trying to deter them away from crime.( Please see fearless.org)

Crimestoppers also played an important role last summer during the London riots when they saw traffic on their website increased up by 500% and the number of calls to their bureau was up by 300%.

Many people are unaware that Crimestoppers is a charity, but they are, and they need help from the general public to continue their good work.

For further information please check out their website, as it has some interesting facts on the work that they have done over the past 23 years.

http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/how-we-help/our-achievements/23-facts-about-23-years-of-crimestoppers

Any shillings or pennies you can spare will be greatly received.

Also if you are free on the 22nd of April please come along to cheer... I will be the big bloke at the back.

Many thanks,

Tom

Charity Registration No. 1108687

Crimestoppers is the independent crime-fighting charity. We help to arrest 17 criminals every day and one murderer every 5 days. Our charity runs the anonymous telephone number, 0800 555 111, that people can call to pass on information about crimes. We also have an anonymous online ‘Giving Information’ form that people can fill out to pass on information. Some people fear the consequences of going to the police when they know about a crime. Crimestoppers is there for them. Because the telephone number is anonymous, callers are not asked for any personal information and calls cannot be traced. 0800 555 111 has been helping to find criminals and solve crimes for 21 years. We’ve received more than 1 million telephone calls with useful information about crimes. It’s a system that works for everyone – except criminals. With your support, we can continue fighting crime to make our society a safer place to live.
