Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.   An Ultra Lightweight !   An Ultra Lightweight..... cycle tour that is !!  On 2nd September 2011 I will be taking a train to Penzance along with my trusty steed, namely my Specialized Tarmac road bike, in preparation for the “End to End” (otherwise known as Land’s End to John O’Groats.... LEJOG). This is a solo attempt and I will start at Land’s End on the morning of 3rd September, I will be traveling “ultra light” equipped with little other than essential equipment, a change of clothes and my toothbrush !! I’m expecting to take between 8 - 12 days and given the time and opportunity will be extending the trip to the Orkney & Shetland Islands.   I’m a keen cyclist and it has been an ambition of mine to complete the “End to End” for as long as I can remember. The idea of cycling from the most Southerly part to the most Northerly part of mainland UK (about 1000 miles give or take) has always appealed to me. I know not why, other than it’s a challenge and “because it’s there”.... those famous words spoken by George Mallory in 1924 when he was asked why he wanted to climb Everest !!     Whilst fulfilling a personal ambition of my own, I felt that it would be a great opportunity to raise some money for a good cause. I have been aware of the charity Hope & Homes for Children for a couple of years now. The charity’s values appeal to my own belief system that every child brought in to this World should have an opportunity to flourish and fulfill their potential.  Working across Central and Eastern Europe and Africa, Hope and Homes for Children have been responsible for finding homes for thousands of orphaned, abandoned & vulnerable children. The charity gives many children a chance in life that they would otherwise not have.   Any donations would be greatly appreciated, from the price of a coffee to a four course meal with an expensive bottle of plonk !!
