We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  After seeing two close relatives pass away from cancer in the last year I saw the impact first hand that it’s had on my family.  I really want to raise money for Cancer Research so that one day people won’t die of cancer anymore.

I know many people are asking for sponsorship for many great events and causes close to their hearts these days so I know it’s a lot to ask.  Therefore I knew I needed to take part in an event that would be sufficiently gruelling that people would want to donate.  So I’ve chosen to do a triathlon, well actually 2 triathlons!  For those that don’t know, triathlons are made up of swimming, cycling and then running back to back against the clock and can vary in distance.   The first one I’m going to do takes place at Blenheim Palace on Saturday 9th June (yes not very long to go!) and it will entail:

·         A 750 meter swim (equivalent of 30 lengths or 0.47 miles) dash followed immediately by a

·         Speedy 20km cycle (12.43 miles) and then topped off with a

·         5km sprint run (3 miles)

I have never done a triathlon before and in February of this year I finally recovered from an eight month injury to my knee (so I’ve been battling to get fit!). It will be a daunting experience as the swimming is in cold open water not a nice warm swimming pool with clear visibility. I’m also told that there are so many people competing that it’s every man for himself and legs and arms will be flying everywhere. Whilst the individual disciplines in the triathlon may not seem difficult on their own, being at full pace throughout and combining them is where the challenge arises.

The second event will be on Sunday 23rd September this year when I will be competing in the official “London Triathalon” which is the biggest event in the calendar for triathlon lovers (like the London Marathon for runners).  This one will be:

·         1500 meter swim (equivalent of 60 lengths or 0.94 miles)

·         40km cycle (24.86 miles)

·         10km run (6 miles)

Cancer Research have already saved millions of lives with their groundbreaking work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. People’s chances of surviving cancer have doubled in the last 40 years, and they’ve been at the heart of that progress.  But more than one in three of us will still get cancer at some point. Their vital work, funded entirely by the public, will help ensure that millions more people survive. They support the work of more than 4,000 researchers, doctors and nurses fighting cancer on all fronts. Every day, their researchers make cutting-edge discoveries in their labs, and their doctors and nurses pioneer new treatments with patients in hospitals.  They run high-profile health awareness campaigns and provide clear information to help people understand more about cancer and the steps everyone can take to reduce their risk of developing the disease.

Thank you for your time and thank you for any donation you can make.  I will be paying for all costs associated with competing in these events so you can be assured every penny I raise (100%) will go directly to Cancer Research.   Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Sincere thanks and gratitude.

Ps It’d be great to have some support on triathlon day on 23rd September in London.  It’s going to be hard so please do come along if you can and cheer me on – I’m going to need it!
