Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit the Molnlycke UK JustGiving page.
On Sunday 12 May 2013 25 colleagues and friends of Molnlycke Health Care will be tackling up to 100 KM of the Olympic Road Race Route!
They will be riding on behalf of DEBRA, the national charity who support Children and Adults affected by the horrific condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). The Molnlycke team hopes to raise over £3000 for the charity.
EB is a group of genetic disorders that result in fragility of the skin and, in some cases, other internal membranes and organs. Blisters, open wounds and sores form as a result of the slightest touch, rub or trauma. Certain types of EB can be fatal in infancy and others are severely life-limiting. It is estimated there are more than 5,000 people with EB in the UK, and 500,000 worldwide.
Imagine a child born with skin so fragile that it blisters and comes away at the slightest friction. Imagine the trauma of a parent having to lance and dress the blisters daily, and the agony this causes. Imagine knowing that the constant healing and scarring of limbs will eventually cause fingers and toes to fuse together and become almost impossible to use. In many cases blistering affects internal membranes and eyes, making eating and even drinking impossible and meaning days spent in darkened rooms to wait for heeling to happen. These are the realities of life with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFPAsTtdDfI
Please pledge your support by donating to my fundraising for the DEBRA Surrey Cycle which will help support the work of DEBRA.
The charity provide an enhance specialist EB nursing service to deliver optimal healthcare to children and adults living with EB. They deliver social care support to help people live with dignity. A services parents and people with EB can call upon to reach out for advice, advocacy and practice support when no one else can help. The charity also provide access to specially adapted holiday homes. DEBRA give real hope for the future by funding research to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB.
