The Mongol RallyThe Mongol Rally 2010.
Subject to obtaining the prerequisite Visas, on 24th July I will be driving 10,000 miles to Mongolia for charity as part of the ''Mongol Rally 2010''. My team is called Desert Rat and I am raising money for a fantastic charity ‘MercyCorps’ and donating my vehicle once I arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
There's no back up or support of any kind, no set route and no guarantee of making the finish line. It's not a race and there's no prize for arriving first.
Launching from the UK, Spain & Italy, teams converge in the Czech Republic from where I will be heading south through Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and finally Mongolia.
Navigating through distant countries with a lack of roads, no signs and some of the most punishing terrain in the world. Navigation is a mixture of compasses and luck.
The lack of a set route is the least of the unknown quantities, but I anticipate crossing the Tsagaannuur boarder crossing of Mongolia around the 20th of August, reaching Ulaanbaatar some 3 to 5 days later and catching the next available flight back to Europe.
Please dig deep and don’t forget to claim Gift Aid on eligible donations
