Story
Having just reached Mongolia, after almost 10,000 miles, we are now setting out to raise some money for the people of Mongolia - in addition to the money that we have already raised by donating our vehicle (which despite everything it has been through over the past month, is actually worth more in Mongolia than we bought it for in England).
Unlike some of the other teams who did the rally, we wanted to see the work that was being done on the ground before choosing a charity, so that we could see where the money that we plan to raise would go, and how it would be used. After visiting some of their projects as we drove across the country, we have decided to fundraise for a charity called Mercy Corps.
Mongolia is a massive and sparsely populated country, approximately the same size as India, but with a population of less than 3 million (compared with India's billion). As a result of this and the people's nomadic way of life, much of the population lack basic infrastructure such as roads, electricity or running water. As a result, one of Mercy Corps' main objectives in Mongolia is to try and connect isolated herding families, and give them access to education and economic opportunities. In short, giving future generations of rural Mongolias access to a better life.
Besides the work that Mercy Corps does in Mongolia, it also is involved in many other countries around the world, both in emergancy relief (such as in the recent flooding in Pakistan) and long-term development projects. More information about them can be found on their website at: www.mercycorps.org.uk
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Anything that you can spare will be greatly appreciated by those in Mongolia, so please log on and donate.
