We are 6 finalists set the challenge of a charity hike to the Atlas Mountains in January 2012.
We all work for DRL the largest online kitchen appliance retailer in the UK and in August we were all offered the opportunity to put our names into a draw to be chosen for a once in a life time opportunity of climbing The Atlas Mountains for charity. We will begin our adventure on the 28th January 2012 and hike for 4 days to reach the summit Toubkal. This means that we have just only 4 months to reach our fund raising target of £15,000 for Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
Bolton Lads and Girls Club have over 3,000 members, a registered charity (#1051292) and the biggest youth centre in the UK. Based right in the heart of Bolton town centre, the club is open 7 days-a-week, 52 weeks-a-year and welcomes all young people aged 8-21 years old.
Supported by a team of around 50 professional youth workers, and an army of over 400 volunteers, the charity prides itself on being innovative, fun and without a doubt, the leading youth centre in the country. Each session provides a safe, friendly and positive environment for our young members and helps them:
· Have fun, try new things and relax in a safe, positive, encouraging environment.
· Explore their individuality
· Build self confidence and self esteem
· Improve social skills
· Learn new personal skills
· Develop and learn about team work, co-operation and decision making
· Make new friends.
Sport and recreation are the backbone of Bolton Lads & Girls Club. Sport links all sections of the charity together, and helps them engage with thousands of young people every year. Their mission is simple; to offer young people the opportunity to be active, have fun and learn new skills.
It costs just over £2.5 million a year to keep the Bolton Lads and Girls charity running, that’s over £7000 a day; so climbing The Atlas Mountains to raise £15,000 + for them is going to be a massive help in improving the lives of all the members.
