We were looking for some kind of challenge and decided this would be a perfect opportunity to push ourselves out of our comfort zone whilst at the same time raising money and awareness for a unique and thoroughly deserving charity.

This will be a personal challenge for us all, having experienced various health and fitness issues and all three of us suffering from vertigo!

We have been supporting Nowzad for some time and jumped at the chance to be able to do something positive to contribute to the amazing work they do.

Many of you will be aware of Nowzad and the work they do, if not please visit their website (www.nowzad.com) or their facebook page which is constantly updated with the animals they have helped or are in the process of helping.

Nowzad takes its name from the original dog rescued by Royal Marine Sergeant 'Pen' Farthing at their compound in the town of the same name, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2006. From one single animal, the organization has reunited over 800 soldiers with animals they have rescued from the front lines of this troubled country.

The aim of the charity is to improve the welfare of the animals in Afghanistan, and to this end they have established the only official animal shelter in the country, together with a veterinary clinic, both training staff and also providing animal welfare education to the Afghan people, also offering training to improve the lives of working animals, and most importantly running neutering clinics to reduce the stray population humanely.

This must at times seem like a never-ending battle but in a short space of time they have saved so many animals from a miserable and sometimes horrific life, and working closely with the local population slowly but surely things are changing, one dog at a time.
