Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

From point-to-point jodhpur clad princess to training queen to lycra goddess (photo to follow!) - you could say that I have been on quite a journey already but believe me this is just the beginning. As you may have heard I am training to cycle from Lands End to John o'Groats at the end of May. The trip will take 11 1/2 days of anything up to 100 miles cycling per day to cover the 993 mile total distance. So forget about London 2012 - this is going to be the sporting sensation of the year!

It is going to be tough to say the least but I think I am up for the challenge. Training is well underway and although not a natural born cyclist I am improving all the time - after all if I was doing it on four legs it would be too much of a doddle whereas two wheels is a whole different ballgame!

I need to raise £3,000 to go on this trip (all of which will go to the Bob Champion Cancer Trust as I am paying my own expenses etc.) so please be as generous as you can. I want to do something really special and memorable in my 50th year both for myself and for others and this seems the perfect way to achieve that. I am looking forward to it and dreading it all at the same time and I am relying on you all to tell me if I am turning into a lycra bore, banging on about cadence or gear shifts, wind direction, revs per minute and average speeds. Whilst the wine, vodka shots and mojitos may not be able to be consumed in their usual quantities for a little while please be assured that normal drinking practice will be resumed come the end of May!

So let's go do this thing and raise some proper money for a magnificent cause - if anyone is lacking inspiration take a look at footage of Bob Champion winning the 1981 Grand National on Aldaniti after recovering from cancer and tell me you're not touched by his guts and determination. I will be pedalling up those hills over Dartmoor and everywhere else on the route with Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen spurring me along (well I don't think Barry Manilow will do quite the same job) knowing that you, my mates, are supporting me. We all know someone who has died from cancer so this a perfect opportunity to make a change and do something about it.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
