The RTBP provides education and social activities for community groups and schools. It runs a 26m specially converted and equipped Dutch barge the 'Richmond Venturer', moored in Kingston. It has a unique role, offering the experience of the Thames and its environment to people of all ages and abilities.

Story

You could be forgiven for thinking the title of this challenge was more a reflection on an almost guaranteed medical requirement rather than the nature of the event itself, particularly seeing who some of the team members are, however it is in fact a cycle ride across the British Isles from the mouth of the River Avon to the mouth of the River Thames.

This gruelling ride across some or Europe’s most hostile terrain and environment is being taken on by five not so experienced two wheelers: tour leader and trusted orienteer JJ with his trusty stoker Watson on tandem, Nobby (Keith) a gazelle nipping in and out of the pelaton looking for the next stop,  Fid our rock ensuring following tractors are kept at arms length and the beauty is provided by the streamline Bridget to keep us focused on our goal.

With a combined weight of over 80 stone this rumbling juggernaut of aching flesh and bone will attempt to finish in just three days with no support vehicles at all, following the river across the country. We have decided to keep with the River theme for our chosen charity, The River Thames Boat Project who aim to give a river experience to those less fortunate than others, details on this page of this worthwhile cause.

We appreciate there is always a call for sponsorship but would ask for a small donation to help not only this needy cause but keep us focused on the finish line as we scale up that 1:2 somewhere outside Marlborough in sub zero temperatures and freezing rain!

Thanks

JJ, Fid, Watty, Keith and Bridget
