Story

10DG (my form at Holly Lodge Girls' College will be making history on Friday 11th September 2009 when their artwork will be shown to the public, on the internet, to the world.

Many people will know about Antony Gormley’s ‘iron men’ on Crosby Beach called ‘Another Place’. For Gormley’s latest art project, he is allowing members of the public to be living works of art. I will be appearing on ‘The Fourth Plinth’ in London’s Trafalgar Square between 4-5pm as part of Antony Gormley’s ‘One and Other’ project. I will be winched up on a cherry picker and placed on the plinth for a whole hour. There is nowhere else to go once I am up there.

As well as being their form teacher, I also taught art to 9DG (now 10DG) last year. The girls were asked to design and create a work of art that they would like to see on ‘The Fourth Plinth’. I (foolishly?) promised the girls that if I gained a place on ‘The Fourth Plinth’ that I would show their work. My plan is to walk around ‘The Fourth Plinth’ for one hour showing sculptures and paintings produced by pupils from 10DG. I will also be sending out copies of the girls work into the crowd in the form of paper planes.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Over 32,000 people applied and only 2,400 people got the chance to appear. 10DG will be part of history in the making! The event has been organised by the same people behind La Machine, the giant spider that walked the streets of Liverpool last year.

There will be live footage on the internet between 4-5pm this Friday coming (11th September) of the event at:

www.oneandother.co.uk

Please show your support by watching and also if you see any pupils from 10DG, please congratulate them on this achievement. They are very excited.

In the meantime, you can also show your support by going to:

Then, simply click on ‘We’ll Watch’ and enter a message of support for 10DG.

10DG have nominated a charity for the occasion and would like to raise as much money as possible for ‘Zoe’s Place’ through sponsorship – basically, to get me up on the plinth (so I don’t chicken out at the last minute!). Zoe’s Place offers palliative respite and terminal care for children up to the age of 5 years with complex and life limiting illnesses.
