Goodwood Roller Marathon · 14 August 2011

We work to ensure the public interest in sound science and evidence is recognised in public life and policy making. A small team working with thousands of supporters, from leading researchers to community groups, we focus on difficult issues where evidence is neglected, politicised or misleading.

Story

So, long story short, I went mad and decided to roller skate a marathon. On the 14th August 2011, a hundred wheeled people and I will be hurtling 26 miles around Goodwood motor racing circuit in Sussex.

Come and watch me. I promise hilarity.

As well as raising hilarity, I will also be raising money for Sense About Science.

Sense About Science is an independent charitable trust promoting good science and evidence in public debates. They do this by promoting respect for evidence and by urging scientists to engage actively with a wide range of groups, particularly when debates are controversial or difficult.

They work with scientists to:

  • respond to inaccuracies in public claims about science, medicine, and technology
  • promote the benefits of scientific research to the public
  • help those who need expert help contact scientists about issues of importance
  • brief non-specialists on scientific developments and practices

One day, the world might fail you, and you'll be glad that science was there.

Thank you.
