Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Our crew of six ladies in our sixties come from all walks of life.  We all love the town we live in and although none of us was an experienced rower we joined North Berwick Rowing Club after reading about the decision to build a St Ayles skiff and offer membership to folks like ourselves to enjoy coastal rowing and to build ties within the community.

After a short time the rowers formed a close bond, rowing regularly on the Forth estuary.  We six were staggered to realise that nearly all of us had at some time been affected by cancer.

We decided to take part  in the Great River Race in London this September and to row 23 miles up the Thames against over 300 other self-propelled craft.  The event is in it's 25th year and rowers travel from all over GB and further afield to take part in this exciting challenge.  It has also become a superb fundraising opportunity for many worthwhile causes.

The challenge of a difficult river race and the opportunity to support our local Marie Curie organisation represented an ideal combination for us.

We are meeting all our travel, registration and support costs ourselves.
