HYT supports sustainable development in Uganda by using environmentally friendly technologies. British volunteers & Ugandans work together improving lives, providing employment opportunity by constructing water tanks & low cost buildings & training young Africans in useful, practical skills.

Story

Musa Budimbe is one of HYT’s 8 trainees currently working in Kizigo. He is 20 years old and has now been working for HYT for 7 months. He is a hard worker and a keen learner. After HYT have left Kizigo he plans to make his own house out of ISSB, using the block press which will be left in Kizigo when HYT move on to our next ‘One Village’. As he does not have sufficient funds to make the house using cement in the ISSB blocks, he plans to make the ISSB blocks out of marram without cement. In order to prevent erosion on the outside of the building he will then rough cast it on the outside. It is this sort of initiative which HYT strives to find and he is a fine example and representative of all of the Ugandan trainees and participants in the run/cycle.

The full list of the Ugandan participants is:

·         HYT senior Trainers- Phillip and Fred.

·         HYT Trainees- Musa, Calypso, Chris, Sammy, Mugera, Ivan, Eric and Mathius.

·         HYT gap year counterparts- Richard and Annette.

·         Kizigo Headmaster- Timtom.

·         Kizigo director of studies- Sam.
