The National Literacy Trust aims to create a society in which everyone has the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills that they need to fulfil their own and, ultimately, the nation’s potential.

Story

KPMG are raising money/promoting one of it's fantastic national charities, the National Literacy Trust. I will be attempting to run 10km dressed as Wally, any donations big or small will make such a difference. At work I am given time off to go to a local primary school and volunteer as a reading partner. The work is extremely rewarding, once a week I spend half an hour assisting a pupil aged 7-11 with reading to help develop their literacy skills and boost their self-esteem and confidence. I experiene first hand how important literacy is and the impact it has on peoples lives.

The National Literacy Trust is an independent charity that transforms lives through literacy. One in six people in the UK struggle to read and write. Poor skills compromise health, confidence, happiness and employability. The National Literacy Trust believes that literacy transforms lives, and that with better literacy, everyone can succeed in life. By ‘better literacy’, they mean the combination of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills necessary for a fair chance in life.
