On Sunday the 6th of December 2009 myself and many others will be running 5k around greenwich park in London to help raise money for 'The Brooke Hospital for Animals', break a world record or two and have a right laugh in the process. I have set a target of £200, even though the minimum for this one is just £100. If just 50 people give £4 then we will have done it! (if you can give a little more then please do) I hope to see all my friends and family, as many as personal schedules will allow, on the day. See you there!
About Brooke
The Brooke is the UK’s leading overseas equine welfare charity and our aim is to improve the lives of horses, donkeys and mules working in the poorest parts of the world. These animals form the backbone of the economy in many developing countries, supporting countless poor communities where many people earn less than a dollar a day. The Brooke’s mobile vet teams and community animal health workers, and our partner organisations worldwide, provide free treatment to animals and train animal owners, local healers, farriers, saddlers, feed sellers, harness and cart makers. We currently operate across ten countries in Asia, Africa, Central America and the Middle East.
The enormous difference the Brooke makes is thanks to the kindness of our supporters and the dedication, care and compassion of our local vets and community workers. Our work is underpinned by unique and proven methods developed with Bristol University Veterinary School. We have over 800 highly-skilled staff working directly in the field. Our goal is that by 2016, Brooke will have increased the number of working animals we reach from 700,000 to measurably improving the lives of 2 million suffering horses, donkeys and mules who need our help most in the world.
The Brooke's 75th Anniversary
This year - 2009 - is the Brooke’s 75th anniversary year. We have had plenty of exciting events and activities to get involved with throughout the year - and it's not over yet. This December you can come and celebrate our Charity of the Year status at Olympia. You can also find out how others have already celebrated our 75th year.
If you're fascinated to know more about our humble beginnings and how, over the years, we've become an international lifesaver helping horses and the poor people who depend on them worldwide then you can read about our history too.
The Brooke is dedicated to reaching two million horses, donkeys and mules that suffer the most in the world by 2016, and so protecting the livelihoods of millions of poor people in developing countries who depend on those animals to earn a living.
