Story
We finally made it, we started on the 2nd June at 09.00 from Land's End, and after many moons of carefull planning, promptly got lost two miles from the start !! Oh well, even NASA have teething problems.
We were superbly supported on the whole ride by a team of family and friends who sorted out accommodation and provided transport where needed to get us to it, if we ended the day short, always returning us to the exact place the following day to resume the ride. These were David Saltmarsh, Rick Morgan, my wife Jane and Janet's huband Peter.
As we expected, the first three days through Cornwall and Devon were 'character forming', and we both ended up with cricks in our necks from looking upwards at the road ahead. After churning our way slowly to the top of Dartmoor, we did have a rather exciting two mile decent, freewheeling at over 40 mph !
Apart from a couple of damp days we were extremely fortunate to have good weather all the way, as cold wet cycling is not much fun, and on those couple of occassions we felt very sorry for ourselves.
Up through the middle of England the scenery was beautiful, and this continued into Scotland, although the price to be paid for the views in the Lake District and Cairngorms were some testing inclines .
The last couple of days to John'O'Groats were brilliant, we were following the coast, the sun was shining and the wind was behind us, absolute bliss. In fact as we cycled down to the finish line, we were both a little sad that it had come to an end.
Jane and Peter were there to meet us with a nice cold bottle of Bubbly.
Thankyou to everybody who supported us, both On-line and in the form of cash and cheques. Hopefully we have written to you all to thank you individually, however if we have accidentally missed anyone, please accept our apologies. As stated in the original appeal, every penny donated has already gone to the Myosotis Account.
It took 14 days, (approx 8 hours a day in the saddle) to go 880 miles with only 3 punctures.
