The augmented reality mobile game Pokemon Go has became a worldwide phenomenon within a month of its release, and has developed strong communities of players all over the world. My city of Leicester, England has been fortunate enough to establish a Facebook community of just under 3000 players, and I have been establishing fortnightly social walks with local players since its release.

These social walks have so far gathered between 70 to 110 participants on each event, and they show signs of growing even larger over time, especially with the return of University students to the city this October, and I want to use this momentum to do something good, the Leicester Pokemon Go community has an opportunity to do something to help others and represent the community in a positive light.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a fantastic charity that does an incredible amount to support cancer patients and their families in their time of need, and the work done by Macmillan nurses is invaluable to families all over the country. I fundraise for the charity within my job at Argos, and see potential for getting even greater fundraising totals by mobilising the local Pokemon Go community.

We are going to aim to gather 200 or more players on Saturday October 15th at Leicester Clock Tower at 7pm, before travelling across the city centre parks to play the game. If each participant could donate just £1 we would raise a fantastic £200 for Macmillan, but I think we can do better than that, by spreading our message to friends, family and Pokemon Go players worldwide, I want to attempt to raise £1000.
