Story

Our Challenge

It is an exhilarating adventure race organised by Samworth Brothers employees. In our team of 4, we will be required to plan and navigate our way around a course in order to collect points. The challenge consists of three major sections –

Mountain: 8km, and has a height gain of 274m

Canoe: a maximum length of 10km

Cycle: 30km long with a maximum height gain of around 798m

Why The Whitechapel Centre?

There is an overwhelming number of people sleeping rough or living on the streets in Liverpool. This year’s rough sleeper count reveal the number of people out in the cold is at its highest level in six years, when the government’s current records began.

The snapshot figures reveal 15 people slept rough on one night in Liverpool late last year - up from eight in 2014 and just three in 2010.

And in 2016, these statistics are unacceptable. Everyone should be able to sleep in a warm bed, away from the dangerous and cold streets and rest easy knowing they are safe.

The Whitechapel Centre works hard and tirelessly 365 days a year to help those in need, but they need our support and donations to continue with this amazing service..

What do The Whitechapel Centre do?

"The way is always open at The Whitechapel Centre for homeless people who need some help to pick up their lives and move on.

We are open 365 days a year providing a service to rough sleepers, people living in temporary accommodation and those at risk of becoming homeless.  Last year, 2,605 people came to our door.

We see a path that runs all the way from rough sleeping and street living to accommodation, independent living and employment, offering routes out of homelessness back into the community.  We believe there are practical things we can do to address the factors that can lead to homelessness. Our aim is to help people find the solutions that work best for them and deliver positive outcomes.

Our work is divided into key areas which often overlap. Everyone’s journey through homelessness is different, but may come into contact with any, or all, of our services."
