FASTNET RACE 2009 · 9 August 2009

Leeds Cancer Centre, part of the Leeds Cares family, diagnoses and treats cancer for the people of Leeds and the Yorkshire region. It is one of the largest cancer centres in the UK and provide some of the most up-to-date treatment, care and support for people with cancer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Nine (maybe foolhardy!) sailors from the North are taking part in the Fastnet race down South in August this year. We've been training really hard over the past few months under Sally's watchful gaze. We are now in our final three weeks before the big race. If you haven't heard of the Fastnet race, it is the most famous offshore yacht race in the world. The course is over 608 miles starting in Cowes to the Fastnet Rock off Ireland and back to Plymouth. It will probably take us four days to complete (we hope!). We wanted to ask for your support to help us raise money for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre. If we can reach our target  before the race it will give us the extra push when the storms rage in the middle of the night! Watch this space after our training track record to date (broken mast, seasickness, ripped sails to name but a few problems!) we are hoping to qualify for team GB in the 2012 Sailing Olympics!
