Hello!
Some of you may already know that i am taking part in HIKE4LIFE this December between the 25 – 3 January 2010! It certainly will be a challenge but I’m ready for it!This means some serious training and preparation, swapping my heels for some chunky hiking boots and all my chocolates and sweets for some healthy fruit and veg! Woo hoo! Those who know me well enough will understand how much of a sacrifice this will be!!
So, my challenge is to climb two remarkable mountains in Eastern Uganda (Mt. Elgon 4321m & Mt. Kaddam 3068). Mt. Elgon is volcanic in nature and is widely regarded as the largest extinct volcano on the planet. The goal is to reach the highest peak (Wagagi) on the remnants of the crater rim. Mt. Kaddam, is smaller, but more arid, very dramatic, and consists largely of spectacular rock buttresses rising from the plains of Karamoja north of Mt.Elgon.
Part two of the challenge is to raise £4000, which will go to charity. Focus Humanitarian Assistance ( http://www.focuschallenge.org/ ) is an international group of agencies that help to provide emergency relief, mainly in the developing world. As part of its annual fundraising endeavours, for the last few years, FOCUS has organised a series of challenge events, involving hiking or cycling in various parts of the world.
So please sponsor me as much as you can. Every little bit will contribute and help me reach my target.
While you’re all relaxing and enjoying the festive season, think of me!
