My story

As most of you know I have recently returned from volunteering in Africa. I worked on a project helping the most endearing children in the slums. The people at the 'Walk Centre' have touched my heart in such a significant way that since returning to England I have made it my mission to do everything I can to continue my support.

Whilst there I worked within the community and helped the families of the slums, caring for those less fortunate, teaching the children English, providing meals and offering support to their families who have AIDS and HIV. These people have incredible spirit, belief and hope. It is so inspiring to see, their determination to never give up, to continue to fight the system and help the children to improve their future and lives.

The harsh reality of slums hit me, I realised I would be going back ‘home’ and these children will still be here, still living in the slums, still hungry, still appalling conditions, still abused etc. This IS their lives, forever… unless we give these children the hope they deserve. I appreciated the importance of shaping their future to provide an education so they can leave the slums behind and start a new life because they ARE the future of Africa.

All the money raised will go to sustain the long term plans of the Centre, to continue to support the children, provide food, an education and financial assistance for medical care. The long term plans are to build a sheltered accommodation for the high risk children, to buy land so they can grow their own food, to provide vocational training to the older children to give them a valuable trade. The list is endless….but with your generosity we can make it happen.

Thank you so very much for the support, I will always keep these people close in my heart so it means the world to me.

£3.50 will feed a child a month!

£3,000 will buy a plot of land to re-house a family from the slum and teach them to farm and become self sufficient (the land remains in the ownership of the charity until the family has been successfully self sufficient for a period of 3 years - only then will ownership be transferred).

£90,000 will buy a plot of land to build a bigger school with better facilities to take in more children
