Since 2002, the Tag Rugby Trust has worked in 8 countries around the world. Post Covid, our focus is very much in Zimbabwe. We use rugby as a vehicle to “Build Futures” through social outreach programmes in the community. Sustainability and local ownership are central pillars to our approach.

Story

Dear all,

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Four years ago if you had made a bet with me that I would ever be  interested  in rugby I would have gambled my worldly possessions on the answer being a firm "NO!"......However, my two very active, boisterous children  were ‘climbing the walls’ on winter mornings and the best thing we ever did was join a local rugby club. For three years they ran about in the mud, made friends and learnt some very useful skills whilst having fun.. I can not sit on the side line for long and soon got ‘sucked in’  eventually managed the team and  progressed to coaching.

At the same time I developed a respect and interest for the sport and more importantly realised what it gave to my children. They were lucky, as they had a parent willing to take them every week, volunteers to run and coach at the club, all the equipment was provided, and they had boots and full kit, Opportunities that children elsewhere in the poorest parts of the world just don’t get….until now!

The Tag Rugby Development Trust are doing an incredible job reaching out to children that so need an opportunity to learn a skill, an interest, a purpose, a game that will bring  communities together. They provide the basic kit, and volunteers and  take this out to Orphanages and Government Schools across the world to teach them how to play tag rugby. An interest and skill that hopefully will stay with them forever and make a difference to their very underprivileged lives.

So, without waffling on any further, the purpose of  my story is to ask for your help. Funds are needed by the charity in order to do carry out their work,  I have volunteered my time and commitment to help in India October 2010 and I need to raise £2,000 in order to suppport the charity. Have a look at the web site and check out the fabulous work the TRDT do…and then please dig deep and help me make a difference to these children via my Just Giving page.

I am also organising a charity band night 28th May locally to me and would be so grateful if you could support this too.  Should be a great evening, an excuse for us all to get together and catch up over a drink or three!! Please email me for details.

Thank you on behalf of the children in India.
