Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft charity, sponsoring 2M+ cleft surgeries since 1999. Smile Train empowers local medical professionals with training, funding, and resources to provide free quality cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally, in their own communities.

Story

Every year 170000 children are born with a cleft lip and/or palate.

The surgery to repair this is straight-forward and relatively inexpensive; children born with cleft lips and palates in the UK lead normal lives.

However, most people in the world cannot afford the surgery for their children. This means that those children cannot develop normal speech, and may have problems eating.

Many children in the developing world are ostracized from their communities, and not allowed to attend school or get a job; some are abandoned or killed at birth.

Surgery can cost as little as £150 so it would be great if we could raise this amount to change the life of a child born with a cleft lip or palate.
