As most of you know my (wife) Natasha recently died from pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed on 17th January 2010 and died on 23rd April 2010. Natasha was not given a fraction of a percentage of a chance, not a glimmer of light, but none the less she fought and fought with courage i never thought possible. She was just amazing, incredible.....Fin and i are proud of her beyond words.
The day Natasha was diagnosed the words "Palliative Care" echoed around us. I was compelled to double check the meaning to see what our position was: "To alleviate pain without cure"...................
Several days after, unbeknown to us at the time we were were given our glimmer of light in the form of St John’s Hospice and its incredible staff. If it was for a night or a fortnight the Hospice was a place Natasha could use as her own little refuge for some sleep or peace or outstanding medical care and there was ‘nothing’ the consultants, nurses or volunteers wouldn’t do for her. Whether she was feeling ‘well’, incredible discomfort or in her final days, the staff made her life as comfortable as realaxed and as dignified as possible. It takes a special kind of person to work in this field and I have nothing but admiration for them. I cannot praise and thank them enough for looking after my beautiful girl.
All charity is wonderful, be it personal association or heartfelt and I now have a personal link to St John’s Hospice and “Palliative Care” . St John’s Hospice needs to raise a million pounds a year to remain operational and to help thousands of families like ours…
So thank you very much for your support
Love… Alex, Tasha and Fin X
