Story

My name is Nathan I am 11 years old, on the 2nd April 2016 I am going to climb Snowdon a mountain in Wales with my friends Robbie and Conor, my auntie Tania, my mum Rebecca and my mums friends Lisa, Justine, Maria, Barry, Barry and Chris to raise money for CALM (Campaign Againt Living Miserably)

On May 15th 2015 my dad Pete Bain committed suicide at the age of 34, he had a family, 3 children myself, my sister Leah and my half sister Clara he also had a job but this still wasn't enough to keep him from taking his own life, I couldn't understand that and I still really don't. I've been told my dad was poorly in the head something called depression (a word I had never heard of before) since my dad committed suicide I've grown up a lot and now have more of an understanding of suicide and how many men in the UK take such a sad way out of life.

When I heard my dad had died I felt sad, angry, didn't want to talk and I didn't want to do anything or go out with my friends. My family all felt very sad and found the way my dad had died hard to deal with and understand. My dad has taken his own life and there is no changing that, I hope that CALM can help other men who feel like my dad did, save them from committing suicide and stop other families going through the tradgey of loosing a loved one the way mine did.

CALM is a charity which exists to prevent male suicide in the UK.

In 2014 male suicide accounts for 76% of all suicides and is the single biggest cause of death in men under 45 in the UK.

My hope is to help CALM with the money so that men can get the help they need before they reach the point of no return like my dad and to raise the awareness of male suicide in the UK.
