It would be difficult to find anyone who has not been affected by cancer either personally or through the experience of a family member, friend, or colleague who has battled the disease. This walk is being organized by the Halifax site to raise money in remembrance of a co-worker, John Norris, who passed away at the age of 45 earlier this year after being diagnosed with cancer in 2012.
Mount Snowdon, at 1085 m, is the highest peak in Wales. Although the mountain is not exceptionally high, it has some treacherous sections and spectacular cliffs. The mountain, combined with unpredictable weather conditions, proved the ideal training ground for Sir Edmond Hillary and Tenzing Norgay as they prepared for their summit of Mount Everest.
Today the mountain offers a number of well-defined routes to the summit, each with varying degrees of difficulty. To add some incentive and excitement to the day, the plan is to ascend via Crib Goch, the most difficult route, where a party of 9 hikers were recently rescued (http://www.ukhillwalking.com/news/item.php?id=68127). The third picture in the gallery below shows a portion of the ridge walk along the route.
I've set an aggressive fundraising target so I'm relying on your generosity to help out in any way you can. Thank you in advance for your donations.
