Sussex Beacon Half Marathon 2010 · 21 February 2010 ·

The Sussex Beacon is a specialist facility, providing support and care for people facing the challenges of living with HIV. The Beacon is to become the UK’s only dedicated hospice for LGBTQ+ people, uniquely combining inclusive care with expertise in HIV specialist care.

Story

To all my friends and family,

I am taking on a new challenge in the new year to run the Sussex Beacon half-marathon in Brighton.

It will be the first time I've ever run this sort of distance and I will be in training for 3 months to get me ready to succeed.

Why the Sussex Beacon?  Well its a charity that does work that is close to my heart...

Since 1992, the Sussex Beacon has been providing vital services for people with HIV.  They can stay in their residential unit or use their community services. The nature of HIV has changed over the years, so the Beacon has adapted to meet these changes.  Until the day comes when a cure is found for HIV or a vaccine can help it occuring, then the Beacon has a job to do.  Their clients needs vary from residential care, to recovery from a hospital or adaption to new medication.  The challenges facing people living with HIV are enormous, but the Beacon help with all this and more.  Put simply I believe the Beacon saves lives, and without their services, many people may have died.

This charity has an important place in my local community and needs our support.  Please support me to support them.  And please remember to tick the Gift Aid supplement so this can be claimed for your donation.

Thank you, with love, Nathan
