Isle of Wight Challenge 2015 · 2 May 2015 to 3 May 2015 ·
We're doing a walk on 2 May to raise funds for Action for A-T. Neale is walking the full length of the Isle of Wight which is 106 km and will take him approximately 24 hours to complete non-stop! Sue is taking the easier option of walking 33 km and is aiming to complete in about 5 hours.
What is A-T? A-T (ataxia-telangiectasia) is a rare, genetic degenerative disease of childhood. It is life-limiting, with those affected living until their twenties. There is currently no cure for A-T and no treatments to slow down or stop the progression of this devastating disease. In the UK, the amount of funding provided for research into A-T is very limited.
There are no indicators for A-T at birth - a diagnosed child’s health progressively deteriorates causing an overall loss of coordination and muscle control. Children are usually confined to a wheelchair by around the age of 10 and need assistance with everyday tasks. If that wasn’t bad enough, A-T patients are also predisposed to developing cancer.
The Action for A-T charity was founded in January 2012 by parents of a child diagnosed with the disease, the patron of the charity is rugby star Jonny Wilkinson. Your donation will help support much needed medical research which will hopefully find a cure for this cruel disease.
Please give what you can. Donations of plasters, thick socks or cake to help us on our way will be much appreciated!
