06 March 2011- Update The Warrant Officer and Senior Rates Mess of HMS Scott yesterday successfully completed their challenge to ride from Mount Pleasant Airport to Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands. We couldn't have picked a more glorious day. As the sun beat down in an unseasonably hot (22 deg C) day, the team was under starters orders from the Commanding Officer (Cdr George Tabeart RN) at approx 1000. It took in total approx 5 hours to ride the 33 miles and I can confirm that the seats are as uncomfortable as I remember them from 35 years ago!! Money was collected along the way and the local Falkland Islanders where extremely generous.

New photos have been added and once all money is collected, I will update again to let you know the total sum.

Many thanks for your generosity to everyone who has pledged/sponsored or given money to these two worthwhile causes.

The Warrant Officer and Senior Rates Mess HMS Scott will be attempting a 33 mile bike ride from Mout Pleasant Complex to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands on Sat 5th Mar 2011 on 1970 Raleigh Chopper bikes. All money raised via sponsorship or Just Giving, will be shared bewteen two charities, Hop, Skip and Jump (South west) and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

As many friends and family know, my 4 year old son Jacob was diagnosed as Autistic some 18 months ago. Hop, Skip and Jump is a special place for special people and gives children and families of children with disabilities a place to go for respite and friendship. The charity receives no income from the Government and requires £200,00 a year to keep it's doors open.

Another mess member, Jim Stevenson, has a 22 year old daughter who was recently diagnosed with MS. The cycle ride will also help to raise money for this other very worthwhile charity. The mess will be cycling from MPC to Port Stanley on 1970's Raleigh chopper bikes, a distance of approx 33 miles. The road to Port Stanley is 20% tarmac, and 80% shingle trail, so the going will be tough!!
