To raise funds for the Get a Head Charity I'm organising a charity football match to be played at Charlton Athletic's ground on Sunday 22nd May at 3pm. Slots can be bought for £150.00 for 90 minutes or £75.00 for 45 minutes. Spaces will be limited. We will have full use of the pitch and changing facilities. If you are unable to play or can't get down on the day to watch we will gladly accept any donations to help raise as much money as possible on the day. It will very much be a family day with kids entertainment / half time penalty shoot out.
The Charity : In the words of Charlie (my pal and Mel's husband); Its a weird, rare and slow growing condition called Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) in the UK only 20 or so cases are identfied each year. She has already beaten it once - they removed a lump the size of a tennis ball from her head 4 years ago - but we found out in the summer 09 that it has returned, this time in her lungs. Mel has no outward symptons at the moment...however, although slow growing her cancer is relentess and there is currently no cure.. surgery, chemo and radiotherapy have all been ruled out.
Now, as it is so rare, there's no find a cure research going on from the major drug companies as they can't see a quick return on their money. So a seperate fund has been set up to finance the research so we can find a cure. And the boffins have already started....
