We raise funds for The National Hospital to improve the lives of neurology patients

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The National Brain Appeal has committed to raise £500,000 to double the size of the Molly Lane Fox Unit. It opened in 2011 and was the first dedicated brain tumour unit of its kind in the UK. The unit provides a centre for specialist care aimed at increasing survival rates and improving the quality of life for adults with brain tumours.

More than 400 patients were admitted to the Molly Lane Fox Unit in 2015, but demand for the unit has outgrown capacity by over 55% and is set to increase further.

This means that more than half of patients are admitted to general wards and not able to access the unique service that is offered.

The National Brain Appeal is raising funds to relocate and
double the size of the unit – from 12 to 24 beds (including two rooms with sofabeds which can be used by family of patients requiring a longer stay, with more complex needs or during end-of-life care).

Taking on this challenge will, in some small way, acknowledge
the bravery and fortitude displayed by my numerous brain tumour patients. I want to pay tribute to them and their families − many of whom have been tremendous supporters of Queen Square and The National Brain Appeal over the years.
