Story
In January 2013 my nephew Joseph Lillywhite was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, an incredibly aggressive childhood cancer. He's bravely fought this terrible disease and endured over a year of intensive treatment involving chemotherapy, radiotherapy, stem cell harvest and complex operations - all performed by the super staff at the Leeds General Infirmary.
The absolutely fantastic news is that so far Joseph is winning his battle, he's in remission and getting stronger everyday. You can see him returning to the happy, healthy, energetic little boy he was before Neuroblastoma - a completely different boy to a year ago when I was cycling to raise funds for Joseph, then he was a very poorly child indeed.
But.... the really evil thing about Neuroblastoma is that has a nasty habit of coming back. If it does, then the NHS can do no more and Joseph will need to go abroad for very expensive further treatment. Therefore the fund-raising goes on.
This year I'm running the Great North Run to fund raise for potential future treatment for Joseph.
Hopefully the disease will not return, and Joseph will never need the funds that are raised in his name. If this is the case any funds raised will go to the NCCA UK to help fund research into neuroblastoma and support other families affected by the disease.
