Story

Welcome to "Beacon Hill to Berry Head Easter Challenge 2010" - one man, one uni, one mission!

The Challenge:
To ride my 36" unicycle 200 miles from HIndhead, Surrey to the Devon Coast over the 4 days of the Easter weekend 2010.  The route will take me through the south coast countryside, along coastal and cycle pathways and some off-road trails.  My unicycle will be up for the challenge and I'm working on my legs, but those hills still seem a lot bigger the closer I get!! The reason for this madness? To use what has become an exhilarating hobby to raise a big pot of cash for two deserving causes.  Some say I'm 40 going on mid-life crisis but there is some seriousness behind the insanity!  For this adventure, in memory of my Dad, we've chosen to support Marie Curie Cancer Care and the RNLI. Marie Curie Cancer Care:  As some of you know, my Dad died of pancreatic cancer in February 2008.  The Marie Curie nurses were an incredible support to us in my father's final days.  Their home help meant that he was able to spend his last days with us at home and they brought some relief to the immense anguish and sadness.  This is my way of thanking them for their fantastic support during an incredibly difficult time. RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution):  Mum and Dad have had a long association with the Lifeboats, having both grown up in Brixham, married there and returned there in 2002.  They spent many a day listening in to the lifeboat radio channel and watching the lifeboat being called out to sea so it seemed a natural choice for our second charity.  The Target:We're setting our sights high and aim to raise £30,000 - £15,000 for each charity (Marie Curie Cancer Care  target='mytarget'http://original.justgiving.com/neilhannay). We believe we can do this with your help.  Donations of any amount to one or both of these worthwhile causes will help to save lives and support families through the heart-break that cancer brings. SPONSOR ME NOW and you can sit back and eat your Easter eggs guilt-free! My Support Team:Sammy, my wife, is taking on the behind the scenes challenge of fundraising for this adventure – if you’d like more details of the route/event and a fundraising pack, let us know.

Adam, my 8-year old, will occassionally be cycling with me on some off-road tracks and anyone who wishes to join me for a slow cycle is more than welcome. I have a spare unicycle, if you feel the urge!  We'll be stopping at pubs and points of interest along the way and we'll get the details of this up on a website towards the end of the year.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNLI (and Marie Curie Cancer Care target='mytarget'http://original.justgiving.com/neilhannay) gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks

Neil and Support Team (Sammy, Adam and Nathan)
